FEMA officials gave an update Tuesday on its plan to build group housing sites throughout Lafourche Parish during a town hall meeting in Mathews.
However, several attendees and council members argued there are already existing properties in the parish that could be used to house displaced residents.
Phillip Price, who oversees FEMA’s housing efforts in Lafourche, said the agency is exploring proposed housing sites in Lockport, Galliano and Larose. Specifically, here are the plans:
- A 45-acre site for up to 207 mobile homes at 7757 La. 308 in Lockport.
- A 52-acre spot at 129 Valentine Drive near Lockport to hold 322 housing units.
- 69 acres at 170 McCloud Road in Lockport for 304 units.
- An 8-acre site at 17144 La. 3235 in Cut Off to accommodate 36 units.
The agency already completed a housing site at the Rouses in Larose that holds 34 units.
